Advocacy

Advocacy is an important part of improving the health system to be as accessible, equitable, and fair as possible.

Advocacy has been an important part of our work since our inception, particularly when it came to supporting the COVID-19 response. Our early work involved advocating and directly supporting broader access to vaccines and COVID-19 testing in the second year of the pandemic, and ensuring that equity-deserving groups had as much access to these vaccines as everyone else.

Since then, our advocacy efforts have shifted towards routine vaccinations and supporting specific patient groups, with some of our key projects highlighted below. Regardless of the topic, our advocacy is grounded in the principles of equity – ensuring that all have equal access to care, and partnership – recognizing that our collective voices are more effective than one.

Praxus Health - Advocacy

We advance advocacy by:

Adult Vaccine Alliance (AVA)

Formally started in late 2023 with Santis Health and a range of partners from public health, industry, patient groups, academia, etc., AVA aims to increase uptake of adult vaccinations through improved funding, access, and awareness.

Specifically, this means AVA will advocate for increased government funding of NACI-recommended vaccines and better access for vaccines (e.g., through the pharmacy channel in addition to public health and primary care).

Canadian Immunocompromised Advocacy Network (CIAN)

CIAN was initially formed in response to concerns different immunocompromised Canadians had around COVID-19 and accessing different prophylactics and therapeutics in 2022.

Since then, CIAN’s membership has grown and is working on advocating on a range of issues that pertain to immunocompromised Canadians including better access to preventive and curative treatments, more education and information around illnesses, and greater societal awareness of the issues facing immunocompromised Canadians.

AVA 1 in 4 campaign

We worked with a range of partners to highlight the fact that 1 in 4 Canadians missed routine vaccinations during the pandemic, and advocated for increased access to vaccines by widening delivery channels (e.g, pharmacies).
